3 Arrested In Connection To May Murder On Lunt Avenue: Aurora PD

Three men were charged with first-degree murder after police say they fatally shot a man on the city's west side earlier this year.

AURORA, IL — Three men were arrested and charged Tuesday in connection with the death of a man who was fatally shot May 8 on the city's west side, police said.

Kevan Spatz, 36, Joshua Rodriguez, 31, and William Rodriguez, 18, were charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of home invasion and two counts of armed violence.

Spatz, of the 1400 block of North Menard Avenue, and Joshua Rodriguez, of the 2400 block of West Lunt Avenue, were also charged with one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a felon. William Rodriguez, of the 2000 block of Scott Street, received the additional charge of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon by a person under 21.

They are each being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center on $2 million bonds, documents show.

The charges stem from a fatal shooting around 12:15 a.m. May 8. Police received multiple 911 calls reporting shots fired and a gunshot victim near Illinois Avenue and Candleberry Lane. Officers found Isaiah Ayala, 36, suffering from gunshot wounds at a residence in the 2300 block of Candleberry Lane, according to a Wednesday news release.

Ayala was pronounced dead at a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

After more than three months of investigation, detectives determined Spatz and the Rodriguez brothers were responsible for the shooting. All three were taken into custody by the U.S. Marshals Service Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force.

Police continue to investigate the shooting despite the charges and are asking anyone with information to contact the Aurora Police Department's Investigations Division at 630-256-5500.
