3 Teens Charged With Murder In Death Of 19-Year-Old Man: Aurora PD

The boys, from Aurora and Montgomery, were charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery, police said.

AURORA, IL — Three teens were charged with murder in connection with a fatal shooting Aug. 20 on Aurora's west side, police said Tuesday.

Three boys — a 16-year-old and a 15-year-old from Aurora and a 15-year-old from Montgomery — were each charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery. The eldest is also charged with one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon with no Firearm Owner's Identification card.

Police are not identifying the boys since they're underage, officials said.

The charges stem from a shooting around 7:24 p.m. Aug. 20 in the 1300 block of North Glen Circle. Police responded and found 19-year-old Edwin Varela suffering from gunshot wounds inside a car that had just crashed, according to a news release. Paramedics took the man to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead "a short time later," officials said.

During an investigation into the shooting, police said detectives determined all three boys were responsible. They were taken into custody Aug. 24.

Despite the charges, police continue to investigate the shooting and are asking anyone with information to call the Aurora Police Department's investigations division at 630-256-5500.
