4 Adults, 4 Children Displaced In Fourth Street House Fire: Aurora FD

Firefighters were dispatched Sunday evening to extinguish a fire that started in a single-family home that was divided into two apartments.

AURORA, IL — Eight people, including four children, were displaced after a fire broke out Sunday evening at a single-family home converted into two apartments, according to the Aurora Fire Department.

Firefighters from the department's Central Station received multiple calls about a blaze in the 100 block of South Fourth Street. Two engines, a truck, a medic unit and two battalion chiefs were sent to the house before the fire was upgraded to a Level 2, bringing a total of 25 firefighters to the scene.

Upon arrival, crews found heavy smoke and fire showing from a second-floor window. Engine Company firefighters deployed multiple hose lines to extinguish the fire while Truck Company crews forced open the door and began searching for victims, finding none, officials said.

The fire was brought under control within a few minutes of firefighters' arrival. Crews remained at the house for another hour to extinguish any hidden fires.

No firefighters or civilians were injured.

In the end, the structure was deemed uninhabitable, displacing four adults and four children. The two adults and two children in the lower unit are staying with family, while the two adults and two children who resided in the lower unit received help from Victim Services and Red Cross, officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation, officials said in an update.
