5 Unlocked Cars Burglarized Saturday In North Aurora: Police

Police are investigating possible links between the burglaries and an incident in which a home was shot at early Saturday morning.

NORTH AURORA, IL — The North Aurora Police Department is investigating a string of unlocked-car burglaries reported across the village early Saturday morning. Police say they are searching for four people who were seen on security footage searching through cars that morning.

Three unlocked vehicles were burglarized on the east side of the village and two were stolen from on the far west side, according to police. Two burglaries occurred in the 600 block of Graham Road, while additional burglaries were reported in the 600 block of Hamilton Lane and the 300 blocks of Western and Bennett drives. Police say the burglars stole a wallet, ID cards, cash and a power washer during the spree.

Officers are searching for four people who they say were filmed just after 1:45 a.m. Saturday rummaging through cars parked in the 600 block of Bennett Drive. They were later seen entering a dark SUV, which is similar to a vehicle linked to an incident where a home was shot at early Saturday morning, according to a news release. That incident reportedly occurred about two hours after the attempted burglaries on Bennett Drive. No one was injured.

North Aurora police said they are “thoroughly” investigating any potential connections between the burglaries and the shooting, “even though shots being fired is highly unusual for car burglaries.”

Officers encouraged residents to lock their vehicles’ doors, roll up windows and remove any valuable items to reduce their risk of being targeted by burglars. The North Aurora Police Department is asking anyone with information about the burglaries, or anyone who has yet to report a recent burglary, to call the department at (630) 897-8705.
