51 Coronavirus Deaths At Aurora Nursing Homes, Senior Centers

Public health data shows there has been one new death at long-term-care facilities in Aurora over the past week.

AURORA, IL — More than 50 residents of long-term-care facilities in Aurora have died after testing positive for the coronavirus, according to public health data. There has been one new death at long-term-care facilities in the past week, a resident of Alden of Waterford, the data shows.

Eleven facilities in the city have reported cases of the coronavirus among residents and staff, and six have reported coronavirus-related deaths, the data shows. Despite representing less than 8 percent of Aurora’s 3,818 total coronavirus cases, as of Monday, residents of long-term-care facilities account for almost 47 percent of the city’s coronavirus-related deaths — with 51 — according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health.

Two dozen residents of Symphony of Orchard Valley have died after testing positive for the coronavirus. More than 90 others at the facility also tested positive, the data shows. The Alden of Waterford has reported 10 coronavirus-related deaths and 37 cases since the start of the outbreak.

Public health officials have reported 29 cases and seven deaths at Bickford of Aurora, 36 cases and six deaths at Elmwood Terrace, and two deaths and more than a dozen cases each at Fox Knoll and Bright Oaks of Aurora, according to the state’s data.

The coronavirus outbreak at Bickford of Aurora is the only one in the county considered to be closed by public health officials. Outbreaks are deemed closed when there have been no new cases in 28 days, according to officials.

More than 150 residents in Kane County long-term-care facilities have died after having the coronavirus, according to statistics from the Illinois Department of Public Health. Thirty-three facilities in Kane County have reported coronavirus outbreaks, and 20 have recorded coronavirus-related deaths.
