6 Businesses Failed To Card Minors, Issued Notices By Aurora PD

Police released a list of three businesses it found that carded and six that didn't card for the sale of alcohol or tobacco to minors.

AURORA, IL — Six local businesses were cited to appear in court after they were found selling alcohol and tobacco products to people under 21, Aurora police said.

Aurora Police Department cadets — all under the age of 21 — went undercover to visit nine businesses as part of the investigation. They found three in compliance and six non-compliant. Under Aurora Ordinance 13-10a, businesses are required to card to prevent the sale of alcohol and tobacco to minors.

These businesses were issued notices to appear:

  • Jay Food Pantry, 3450 Montgomery Road
  • Dragon Smoke and Vape, 1048 N. Farnsworth Ave.
  • Mayas World Smokes and Vape, 261 E. Indian Trail
  • A One Stop Food Mart, 1005 Claim St.
  • Windy City Tobacco and Vape, 20 N. Broadway
  • One Puff Tobacco Shop, 1261 N. Lake St.

The following businesses were in compliance:

  • Green Smoke Vape and Tobacco, 444 N. Eola Road
  • Tobacco Cigar Vape, 1596 N. Farnsworth Ave.
  • Express Mobil Mart, 1030 N. Lake St.

"The City of Aurora ordinances and state laws are clear; the sale of alcohol or tobacco to persons under the age of 21 is prohibited," Special Operations Group Lieutenant Greg Spayth said in a statement. "The Aurora Police Department will continue to verify compliance by conducting random details in the future."
