7 Hospitalized After Porch Collapses At Apartment Building: Aurora FD

A total of 10 people were injured and upper-level units were deemed uninhabitable in the incident on Lincoln Avenue, officials said.

AURORA, IL — Ten people were injured — seven of them hospitalized — after a second-story porch at an apartment building collapsed March 2, according to the Aurora Fire Department.

Two engines, one truck, five medic units and two battalion chiefs were dispatched at 5:18 p.m. to the 700 block of South Lincoln Avenue to find multiple victims and bystanders on the scene. Officials said of the 10 people who complained of injuries, those hospitalized ranged in age from one month to 31 years old.

Three of the patients had serious but not-immediately-life-threatening injuries, officials said, while the other four were treated for minor injuries. No one died in the incident.

The remaining three people injured signed a medical release on the scene refusing treatment, according to a news release.

Officials did not give a reason for the porch's collapse.

The upper-level units at the apartment building were deemed uninhabitable as a result of no safe second-floor access. Fire crews reported that the displaced residents are staying with family.
