9 Cars Stolen Since December: Delivery Drivers, Unlocked Cars Hit: APD

At least nine stolen cars and hijackings have been reported since Dec. 4 in the Hometown subdivision and Fox Pointe Apartment complex.

AURORA, IL — At least nine cars have been stolen or hijacked around the Hometown subdivision and Fox Pointe Apartment complex since Dec. 4, according to Aurora police.

Officials said at least three men between the ages of 15 and 20 have been involved in the crimes targeting delivery drivers and others who leave their cars running and unattended as well as unlocked cars with keys left inside.

The thefts occurred at the following places and times, according to police.

  • Between 6-11 a.m. Dec. 4 in the 2000 block of Fox Pointe Circle
  • At 2:30 p.m. Dec. 10 in the 1700 block of Windcrest Lane
  • At 12:30 p.m. Jan. 4 in the 900 block of Serendipity Drive
  • At 5:25 p.m. Jan. 4 in the 900 block of Serendipity Drive
  • At 5:05 p.m. Jan. 5 in the 900 block of Serendipity Drive
  • At 7 p.m. Jan. 7 in the 700 block of Serendipity Drive
  • Between 10-10:30 a.m. Jan. 11 in the 1600 block of Maple Park Lane
  • At 10 p.m. Jan. 11 in the 900 block of Serendipity Drive
  • At 9:30 p.m. Jan. 12 in the 1600 block of Maple Park Lane

Police described one of the men involved as having worn a black hoodie with a white design, blue jeans, black shoes, and a ski mask. A second man wore a red hoodie with black pants and black and white shoes, while a third man wore a black hoodie with blue jeans and black shoes.

Officials also provided several tips in light of the heightened carjackings on Aurora's east side.

  • Always be aware of your surroundings
  • Report suspicious activity immediately
  • Do not leave vehicles running unattended
  • Do not leave vehicles unlocked
  • Remember offenders' unique physical characteristics (scars, tattoos, limp, acne, etc.)
  • Remain calm if you are confronted by an assailant
