Apartment Fire Displaces 15, Claims Life Of 2 Dogs In Aurora
One resident jumped from a second-floor balcony to escape the blaze.
AURORA, IL — More than a dozen people are without homes and a man lost two dogs in a fire that ripped through an Aurora Apartment building Saturday evening. Officials say the fire broke out at 8:40 p.m. in a two-story multi-family building in the 2000 block of Fox Pointe Drive.
According to a news release from Aurora Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Rhodes, when firefighters got to the scene, a resident told them the other residents had gotten out safely, but that two dogs were still inside the blaze.
One resident was treated at the scene for minor injuries after jumping from a second-floor balcony to safety. Another resident received treatment for minor smoke inhalation.

Firefighters ran into the building and were able to get the two dogs, who were unconscious, out of the fire. Paramedics attempted to resuscitate the dogs, but were unable, Rhodes said.
The fire caused more than $150,000 in damages. Residents were unable to return to their homes and were given temporary lodging assistance.

Rhodes said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
