Aurora To Celebrate Pride Month With Flag-Raising Ceremony Friday

Two days later, the fourth annual Aurora Pride Parade will proceed through the streets of downtown Aurora.

AURORA, IL — Aurora city officials will commemorate Pride Month with a flag-raising ceremony Friday morning.

The city hosted its inaugural Pride flag raising in 2022.

Commissioners on the Aurora LGBTQ Advisory Board, established a year ago, making city history, will join Mayor Richard Irvin to raise the Pride flag at 11 a.m. at One Aurora Plaza, 8 E. Galena Blvd. The ceremony will feature a proclamation, an awards presentation and performances by special guests.

The event kicks off Pride Weekend in Aurora, culminating in the fourth annual Aurora Pride Parade that will step off at noon Sunday.

The parade route will start at East Benton Street and South Broadway before traveling northwest on Broadway to Downer Place, then northwest on Downer Place where it will end at the intersection of Downer Place and North Middle Avenue.

Visitors can find information and buy merchandise on the sidewalk in front of the Paramount School of the Arts, 20 S. Stolp Ave.

"We expect this year's parade to be fabulous, and be sure to stay hydrated and wear sunscreen," Aurora Pride told Patch in a statement in late May.
