Aurora Cops Find Gun On Plainfield Man During Traffic Stop: PD

Police say the man, who is accused of having a gun in his waistband, told them he forgot that he had gone shooting earlier that day.

AURORA, IL — A Plainfield man faces felony weapons charges after police say they found a loaded gun in his waistband during a traffic stop in Aurora Sunday. Patrick Allen, of the 2200 block of Stonehaven Drive, was charged with unlawful use of a weapon in connection with the incident.

Police say they pulled over the vehiccle that Allen was in around 2 a.m. near the intersection of East New York Street and Avenue Lincoln after an officer noticed one wheel was riding on just its rim. Allen's wife, who was driving the car, told police they had just left a party and were driving back to a friend's house to fix the tire.

Allen then got out of the car to check out the damaged tire and police say they saw a loaded 38-caliber Ruger LCP in his waistband. According to police, Allen has a valid Firearm Owner's Identification Card, but does not have a conceal and carry permit.

When asked about the gun, Allen reportedly told police that he "[h]ad forgotten that [he] went shooting earlier in the day.”
