Aurora Cops Find Loaded Gun In Car With Teen Passenger

The gun was allegedly sitting on the floor of the vehicle.

AURORA, IL --- Aurora police found a loaded handgun in a car Friday after getting a call about its passengers possibly smoking marijuana. The incident took place in the 100 block of N. Eastern Ave. just before 10:30 p.m., according to a post from the Aurora Police Department. Police charged Michael Hernandez, 22, of the 1000 block of N. Ohio St., with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after discovering the gun.

Police say the driver of the car initially tried to drive off when they approached, but changed his mind. While questioning the driver, police reportedly smelled marijuana and asked the driver and his 14-year-old male passenger to get out of the car.

Once the suspects got out of the car, police allegedly spotted a loaded handgun on the floor of the vehicle, which resulted in the charge against Hernandez.
