Aurora Fiestas Patrias Festival Raises $102K For Latino Students

September's two-day event was the first time in three years that organizers were able to host the festival.

AURORA, IL — The Aurora Fiestas Patrias Festival raised a record-breaking $102,000 in scholarship funds during its two-day festival in September, officials announced.

Comparitely, the previous scholarship fund amounted to $25,000, according to city officials.

Not only did this year's festival raise a staggering amount in scholarship dollars but the event broke attendance records as nearly 14,000 people participated, officials said. It was the first time in three years the event took place after it was previously canceled for COVID-19-related reasons.

The big check was presented during Tuesday night's Aurora City Council meeting. The scholarship funds will go to college-bound Latino students in Aurora.

The 2022 event was a partnership between the City of Aurora, the Aurora Hispanic Heritage Board and the Aurora Civic Center Authority, which manages RiverEdge Park and the Paramount Theatre.
