Aurora Firefighters Shave Heads, Raise $1800 For St. Baldrick's

Aurora firefighters gathered at Ballydole Irish Pub to shed their locks to raise money for cancer research.

AURORA, IL — Aurora's firefighters might be a little colder in the waning weeks of winter now after they got their heads shaved to benefit the St. Baldrick's Foundation's childhood cancer research. In total, the firemen raised $1,780 through donations that will go toward helping to fight cancer in children.

The annual fundraising event took place at an impromptu popup salon inside of Ballydoyle Irish Pub. An emcee was present as at least half a dozen firefighters and children sat in salon chairs as stylists sheared away. On Facebook, the Aurora Fire Department congratulated the participants for a job "well done!"

So far this year, St. Baldrick's has raised more than $17,000 through its head-shaving event. According to its website, the St. Baldrick's Foundation raises more money to fund research grants for childhood cancer than any organization apart from the U.S. government. If you're interested in supporting the cause, visit the St. Baldrick's website.
