Aurora Man, 44, Dies In Rollover Wreck In Rural Grundy County

The man was attempting to flee police a Grundy County Sheriff's squad car when he crashed his car into a ComEd utility truck.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man attempting to flee law enforcement was the victim of a fatal rollover crash Monday in rural Grundy County, officials said.

The Grundy County Sheriff's Office identified the man as James Pheal, 44.

The crash happened around after noon on Monday near Route 47 and Route 113 in the Coal City area, Patch reported.

Deputies tried to conduct a traffic stop around 12:35 p.m. Pheal, driving a Dodge Durango, didn't stop, instead turning east onto Route 113. When he tried to pass another car east of Higgins Road, he collided with an oncoming ComEd utility truck, officials said.

The Durango rolled several times after the collision, coming to rest in a ditch on Route 113, officials said. Pheal was pronounced dead at the scene.

A stretch of Route 113 was shut down while Illinois State Police conducted an investigation.
