Aurora Man Charged With Attempted Murder In October Shooting: APD

The charges stem from a shooting that took place Oct. 13 in the 1000 block of Grand Boulevard.

AURORA, IL — Police issued 10 felony charges to a 22-year-old Aurora man in connection to an October shooting, officials announced Tuesday.

The charges stem from a shooting that took place at about 8:40 p.m. Oct. 13 in the 1000 block of Grand Boulevard. Police arrived on the scene and found a car struck by gunfire.

At the time of the shooting, officers could not locate the suspect but later determined 22-year-old David Ponce was responsible, officials said. A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was brought into custody on Dec. 14.

Detectives later learned that a disturbance occurred between two people when one of them displayed a firearm, resulting in the second person retreating to a car that was occupied by a third person, according to a news release. As the two in the car fled, the other person shot at the car, police said.

No one was injured in the shooting.

The Kane County State's Attorney's Office authorized the following charges against Ponce, of the 1000 block of Grand Boulevard:

  • Attempted first-degree murder
  • Aggravated discharge of a firearm
  • Two counts of unlawful use of a weapon/ammunition by a felon
  • Two counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon
  • Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Street Gang Member
  • No Firearm Owner Identification card

Ponce is currently being held at the Kane County jail.
