Aurora Man Pleads Guilty To Murdering Plainfield Man At Party

Marquitte West, 25, fatally shot a 23-year-old Plainfield man who intervened in a fight outside of a party, police say.

AURORA, IL -- An Aurora man was sentenced to 27 years in prison Monday after he pleaded guilty to fatally shooting a 23-year-old Plainfield man at a party in 2015. Authorities say Marquitte L. West, 25, fatally shot Derrick Page after Page tried to intervene in a fight West was in outside of a venue in the 600 block of Lake Street.

Police say that on Sept. 5, a fight "erupted" outside of the venue and West shot Page in the head. Page succumbed to his wound the following day.

West must serve his full sentence, according to Illinois Law, Kane County State's Attorney's Officer Public Information Officer Chris Nelson said in a press release. West, who has served 1,203 days in jail since his arrest, will receive credit for that time served.

Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said of West's case, "This defendant was an uninvited guest at a party. His decision to shoot and kill Derrick Page was a senseless and inexplicable act of violence. Derrick Page was helping a friend who was involved in a fight. Marquitte West was there to cause trouble, and needlessly and tragically ended a young man’s life."
