Watch Cops Save Aurora Man From Burning Car After Several Crashes

MONTGOMERY, IL — Fire crews rescued a 71-year-old Aurora man from a burning car Tuesday evening after he crashed into a car wash, a pole, and a concrete barricade in Montgomery. According to a press release from Montgomery Police, Earnest Sercye, of the 500 block of Ashland Ave., Aurora, was allegedly fleeing the scene of a crash near the intersection of Douglas and Montgomery when he crashed into the POWER Car Wash in the 1600 block of Douglas.

After Sercye crashed into the car wash, police say he hit a pole at a nearby Salvation Army and continued to flee. According to police, Sercye crashed into a concrete wall at the end of a dead end street before driving his car into a field, where it burst into flames.

Police and fire crews were able to rescue the Sercye from the burning vehicle and he was rushed to Aurora's Rush Copley Medical Center. He was later moved to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, where he remains in critical condition.

The original hit-and-run-crash is still under investigation, police say.

No charges have been filed at press time and any witnesses to the car crash should call Montgomery Police at 630-897-8707, ext. 9058.
