AURORA, IL — A 31-year-old Aurora resident has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for sexually assaulting a child younger than 13 years old, the Kane County State's Attorney's Office said Tuesday.

Marcus Currie, of the 900 block of East New York Street, sexually assaulted a young girl between February 2018 and January 2019, according to evidence presented during the trial by Kane County Assistant State’s Attorneys Tyler Cox and Stacey Wittman.

At the time, Currie was out on parole for a 2015 drug offense in Fayette County and living with the girl's family, officials said.

Currie was found guilty of two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a Class X felony.

"I am proud of this child victim for her strength and persistence throughout this prosecution," Cox said in a statement. "I hope this sentence allows her to be in a place of safety. Thanks to the staff at the Kane County Child Advocacy Center for their work in this case."

The man has been held at the Kane County jail for 1,112 days, where he has been held since his arrest. The three-plus years spent in jail will be credited toward his prison sentence, according to the state's attorney's office.

In addition to his prison sentence, Currie is also required to register as a sex offender in accordance with the Illinois Sexual Offender Registration Act.
