Aurora Man Sentenced For Kidnapping, Sexual Assault Of Woman

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man has been sentenced to just over five years in prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a woman in 2018. Ryon E. Lumpkins, 29, of the 900 block of North Avenue, was convicted in a bench trial of attacking the woman in a laundry room, forcing her into his apartment, and trying to force her to perform a sex act.

According to authorities, on Feb. 26, 2018, Lumpkins grabbed the woman by the neck and took her to his apartment. After Lumpkins tried to get her to perform a sex act, the woman tried to flee.

Lumpkins fought with the woman as she tried to escape, punching her and grabbing her neck before she was able to get free.

Lumpkins was arrested on March 1, 2018, in connection with the attack. He will get time served for the 553 days he spent in jail since his arrest.

At the sentencing hearing, Kane County State's Attorney Joe McMahon said, "I want to recognize the victim, who showed great strength and courage when she fought off this sexual predator. Her actions stopped a vicious attack and helped put this criminal in prison where he belongs."
