Jose Luis Gutierrez, 52, and his daughter, Sofia, 19, were beaten and robbed while in Mexico with Gutierrez's father.
VILLA DEL COS, ZACATECAS — An Aurora man was shot, his daughter beaten, and his family robbed while they were in Mexico en route to visit relatives for the holidays. Jose Luis Gutierrez, 52, his father, 81, and his daughter, Sofia, 19, were driving to Jalisco in southwest Mexico when the attack took place, ABC 7 reports.
A friend of the family told ABC 7 that five or six men attacked the family, beating Gutierrez and his daughter and shooting Gutierrez three times before leaving stealing their passports and possessions and leaving the pair in separate locations. The attack reported came after Gutierrez, who was getting tired, decided to pull over.
The Gutierrez family is currently getting assistance from the League of United Latin American Citizens and the federal government to get them home safely after they've recovered.
