Aurora Man Used 3D Printer To Convert Firearms Into Fully Automatic Machine Guns: Attorney General
The Aurora man faces a total of 72 counts related to gunrunning, illegally possessing silencers and machine-gun conversion devices.
AURORA, IL — An Aurora man is facing 72 counts related to gunrunning and illegal possession of unserialized weapons after state prosecutors allege he converted semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic machine guns.
Daniel Curry, 42, took part in the illegal sale of eight firearms between September 2025 and January 2026 in DuPage and Kane counties, Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul said Monday.
The Aurora man was arrested Feb. 3 after investigators executed a search warrant in Aurora, finding evidence that Curry used a 3D printer to make machine-gun conversion devices, which turn semi-automatic firearms into fully automatic machine guns — illegal under Illinois law.

The search warrant also led authorities to find six machine-gun conversion devices, silencers and many unserialized firearms and receivers, as well as 50 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and over 200 grams of a substance containing the controlled substance dimethyltryptamine, Raoul said.

- Two counts of gunrunning, each punishable by up to 15 years in prison
- 16 counts of unlawful sale or delivery of a firearm, each punishable by up to three years in prison
- 11 counts of unlawful sale of an unserialized firearm or receiver, each punishable by up to three years in prison
- One count of unlawful sale of unserialized frame, punishable by up to three years in prison
- One count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, punishable by up to three years in prison
- Six counts of unlawful use of a weapon, each punishable by up to seven years in prison
- 12 counts of unlawful use of a weapon silencer, each punishable by up to five years in prison
- 11 counts of possession of an unserialized firearm and 10 counts of possession of an unserialized receiver, each punishable by up to 364 days in prison
- Two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver, one a Class X felony punishable by up to 30 years in prison, and one a Class 3 felony punishable by up to five years in prison
Raoul's office is co-prosecuting the case with the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.
