AURORA, IL -- An Aurora man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for a 2017 attack in which he slashed his ex-girlfriend's face and neck with a sharp object, authorities say. Larry X. Lawson, 21, of the 300 block of High Street, pleaded guilty in Oct. 2018 to attempted first degree murder and aggravated domestic battery in connection with the attack.

According to police, Lawson attacked the victim outside of her home on Nov. 19, 2017, several months after she had broken up with him. Lawson reportedly went to the victim's home and approached her while she was on the phone and in her car. Authorities say he opened the driver's side door, grabbed her phone, and tried to pull her out of the car.

When the victim tried to fight back, police say Lawson "slashed the victim’s neck and left cheek with a sharp object, causing a deep laceration to her cheek that required 12 stitches to close."
