Aurora Mayor Announces Resignation Effective Oct. 30
Mayor Tom Weisner cited an ongoing battle with cancer as the reason.

AURORA, IL — Aurora Mayor Tom Weisner has announced he will resign from the position effective Oct. 30, 2016.
In a statement, Weisner said for most of his past three terms as mayor he’s been dealing with cancer. Despite regular chemotherapy, he said he was able to fully function.
“I have recently begun to feel that I cannot continue to perform at the level I expect of myself and I do not wish to remain as mayor if I can’t,” he said. “...I have made this decision based on my sense that I cannot continue much longer to serve our city at the same level I worked to maintain over the past 11+ years.”

Despite handing in his resignation, Weisner said he’s had the good fortune over the past eleven-and-a-half years to work with City Councils composed almost entirely of good and honest people who had had the best interests of all of Aurora’s people at heart.
“For that, I am most grateful,” he said.
