Aurora Mayor Describes Coronavirus Symptoms: 'I Will Beat This'

Mayor Richard Irvin shared a video describing his battle with coronavirus.

AURORA, IL — In a heartfelt message thanking residents for their support, Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin, who was diagnosed with new coronavirus, said, "I will beat this." Irvin and Aurora Police Chief Kristen Ziman were both tested and confirmed to have coronavirus after a police supervisor was diagnosed.

Irvin went on to describe the symptoms he has had from coronavirus. He said he had "severe headaches and high temperatures."

"My whole body ached, I couldn't think straight, I was disoriented, dizzy when I stood up." He went on to say even his "eyes and gums seemed to ache" and that he lost his sense of taste and smell, along with his appetite.

Irvin described "cold night sweats" and feelings of "tremors and shaking."

Irvin, who celebrated his birthday in quarantine, pleaded with Aurora residents for a birthday gift. He said, "I'm going to ask that you guys follow the governor's stay-at-home order" and health officials' advice for social distancing and hand-washing.

He added, "That's what I'd like for my birthday. This is one that I won't forget anytime soon."
