Aurora Mourns Soldier Killed In Afghanistan
The city flew its flag at half-staff to honor the memory of PFC Miguel Villalon, 21, who was killed in the line of duty Saturday.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora soldier has lost his life fighting in Afghanistan. PFC Miguel Villalon, 21, was one of two U.S. service members who were killed when their vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Kandahar province Saturday.
Aurora Mayor Richard Irvin shared a statement on social media after the death of Villalon, a former East Aurora High School student.
Irvin, who himself is a U.S. Army veteran who served in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, said, "Our prayers and condolences are with the Villalon family during this tragic time. Miguel was a young soldier with dreams for the future and a desire to make a difference in the world today. Much like all of us who have left from our hometown of Aurora to serve our country, our goal is to do our job well and return to our family and friends. Sadly, Miguel made the ultimate sacrifice as he protected our freedom from the front lines. The City of Lights shines much dimmer because of this loss. We’ll stand with his family and provide support. Godspeed, young soldier."
