2 Illinois Cities, 1 In Kane County, Rank Among Safest In Country

A total of 182 cities across the U.S. were ranked based on home and community safety, financial safety and natural disaster risk.

AURORA, IL — Out of all American cities, Aurora has been deemed one of the safest in a new survey.

Illinois's second-largest city ranked 37 as the safest city in the United States. It's one of only two Illinois cities that made it onto WalletHub's annual ranking of safest cities.

The other is Chicago, and it placed 133 among the 182 American cities analyzed.

To come to its conclusion, the personal finance website took at the 150 most populated U.S. cities plus at least two of the most populated cities in each state. Three key factors were compared: home and community safety, financial safety and natural disaster risk.

Aurora's total score came out to 77.77. Comparatively, Columbia, Maryland — which ranked first as safest — received a total score of 85.99.

"No one can avoid all danger, however, and we take on a certain level of risk based on where we choose to live," WalletHub experts said in their findings. "Some cities are simply better at protecting their residents from harm."
