Aurora Store Owner Recognizes Alleged Burglar On Street: Cops

Police say the suspect stole $3,000 in merchandise, but the store owner recognized him on the street later.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man was arrested after a local convenience store owner recognized him from surveillance footage of a recent burglary. Rodney Slaughter, 47 of the 600 block of S. River St., allegedly broke into the convenience store in the 800 block of Oliver around 2:20 a.m. on June 9 and stole $3,000 in merchandise, police say.

According to police, the store owner was walking in the 600 block of S. River St. around 7:25 p.m. later that day when he spotted Slaughter and said he recognized him from the security footage. The store owner told police Slaughter was wearing some of the same items of clothing he did in the surveillance video.

The business owner alerted police, but Slaughter allegedly tried to flee on foot when law enforcement arrived. Police pursued Slaughter on foot, caught up with him, and took him into custody.

Slaughter, who was out on parole for burglary, is currently being held in Kane County Bail on $107,000 bond.
