Aurora Student to Perform as 'Mae Peterson' in Bye Bye Birdie

Aurora's own KyraJo Petit to perform as 'Mae Peterson' in this weekends Spotlight Youth Theater's musical production of Bye Bye Birdie.

Written by Shawn Eident

KyraJo Petit(age 18) will be returning to the stage in the hilarious role of Mae Peterson, the manipulative, overbearing, over the top mother of Albert Peterson in the Spotlight Youth Theater’s production of Bye Bye Birdie. As with all of KyraJo’s roles, her performance of Mae is truly memorable.

KyraJo’s first Spotlight show was way back in 2009 with the production of Cinderella. Seven years later, she has been in 18 more Spotlight productions. KyraJo’s favorite shows have been “Oliver”, “Godspell”, “Tall Tales”, and “Shrek”. Some of her favorite roles have been Nancy in “Oliver”, Peter Pan in “Peter Pan”, and the goofy Donkey in “Shrek”.

Over the last 7 years, Spotlight Youth Theater has been a big part of Kyra’s life. Without her involvement in it she feels that her life would be much more difficult. Through her involvement in Spotlight, she was able to make true friendships, learn more about who she is, and more about who she wants to become. So many of the people she has met in Spotlight have made a huge impact on her life, including Kristi Wright, Jimmy Nicholas, Lindsay Brandson, the Hauser family, and the McKowan family.

KyraJo has the opportunity to be in one last Spotlight show this upcoming Spring before she graduates out from the program. However, the future is bright for this young lady. She is currently the choreography director for this Spring’s production of “Tall Tales’ at Parkview Christian. Afterwards, KyroJo would like to continue teaching and being involved with Spotlight Youth Theater.
