Body Found In Lake Michigan IDed As Aurora Woman, 20: Medical Examiner
First responders found the woman's body in the lake near Foster Beach, where she went swimming and never resurfaced.
AURORA, IL — The name of the woman whose body was recovered Thursday from Lake Michigan has been identified Friday by the Cook County Medical Examiner.
Officials identified the woman as Amy Kelts, a 20-year-old resident of Aurora.
The woman was swimming in Lake Michigan near Foster Beach around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. She never resurfaced after struggling to make it back to shore, Patch reported.

Search teams began looking for the her after was swept underwater by a strong current while attempting to make her way back to shore, witnesses told police.

Chicago police and fire crews resumed their search around 9 a.m. Thursday morning, and police said search crews recovered a body around 9:40 a.m. in the same area where the woman went missing.
Ten people have drowned in Lake Michigan so far this year, including three in the last week, according to reports from ABC7.
"Whatever skills you have, whatever strength or abilities you have, the lake has more," Halle Quezada, with the Chicago Alliance for Water Safety, told ABC7. "And you can't outrun a current so you have to know drowning survival strategies. Having water safety come through schools and having that repeat messaging that kids get year after year is really what we need to be a water safe community."
