AURORA, IL — Aurora police arrested a 28-year-old Homer Glen man after he was found in Aurora driving a black Porsche that was carjacked in Chicago Tuesday morning, officials said.

The Porsche's owner was driving in the 2500 block of South State Street in Chicago around 10:30 a.m. He was stopped at an intersection when a green truck hit his bumper, according to spokespeople at the Chicago Police Department. Police said both men stepped out of their cars to exchange information when the truck driver jumped into the Porsche and fled.

The car owner's iPhone was still in the car, and police were able to track its location, according to Aurora police officials.

The Aurora Police Department's 911 Center was notified around 12:45 p.m. Tuesday that the Porsche was potentially near I-88 and Orchard Road on the west side of Aurora, officials said in a post on Facebook.

After searching, both the Aurora and North Aurora police departments found the stolen car unoccupied and parked outside a fast food restaurant in the 1400 block of Orchard Road. As police approached the car, officials said they saw a running man who matched the description of the suspect wanted in Chicago.

The Chicago Police Department later identified the accused car thief as William Nixon, of the 15000 block of South Sunset Court in Homer Glen.

As he was running, police said Nixon tried to carjack another car outside of Chipotle in the 1500 block of Orchard Road, but his efforts proved unsuccessful. The man kept running, but officers caught up to him a few parking lots away, near Chase Bank, police said.

Nixon was arrested at 8:27 p.m. Tuesday and charged with one felony count of vehicular hijacking and one felony count of possession of a stolen vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Aurora police are working with the Chicago Police Department on the investigation.
