Fire officials say the child found the fire after smelling smoke in a bedroom.

AURORA, IL — Aurora firefighters were able to save a home from being destroyed by fire after a vigilant 12--year-old smelled smoke and called to report a fire in their house in the 3200 block of Wild Meadow Lane. Officials say the child smelled smoke around 2:15 p.m. and saw a fire in one of the bedrooms of the residence, Chicago Tribune reports.
