City Officials To Hold Winter Storm Community Briefing

The Thursday morning meeting will cover topics including how best to stay safe, snow route operations, and parking and shoveling ordinances.

AURORA, IL — City officials will host a Winter Storm Community Briefing at 11:30 a.m. Thursday to discuss preparedness and operations ahead of the winter storm.

The meeting will be held in person at Aurora City Hall, 44 E. Downer Place. For those who can't attend, discussions will be livestreamed on the city's Facebook page.

Topics that will be covered include how best to stay safe, snow route operations, parking and shoveling ordinances, event closures and volunteer opportunities to help clear the snow for senior citizens. Mayor Richard Irvin will be joined by officials from emergency management, public works, neighborhood standards, community services and communications.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm watch for the Chicago area, which goes into effect at 6 p.m. Thursday and lasts until 6 a.m. Saturday. An accumulation between 2 to 5 inches is expected.

Wind gusts up to 55 mph as well as dangerously cold temperatures as low as 25 to 30 degrees below zero could accompany the snow. Falling and blowing snow could cause "white-out conditions" with zero visibility at times, Patch reported.
