Fatal Shooting, Cop Chase, Crash Under Investigation In Aurora

AURORA, IL -- Police in Aurora are investigating a deadly shooting that claimed the life of a 27-year-old man and left several people in custody Thursday. Nestor R. Herrera, of the 400 block of Clark Street, was shot "multiple times" outside of a home in the first block of South West Street, police say. Several persons of interest fled the scene and were arrested after the car they were in crashed, Aurora Police Department Sergeant Bill Rowley said.

Rowley said Herrera was shot around 1 a.m. and later died during surgery at a nearby hospital.

After the shooting, police tried to pull over a car that matched the description of the suspects'. The car fled police and ultimately crashed near the intersection of Hill Avenue and Route 34.
