Fireworks May Have Caused Aurora Garbage Can Fire: FD

Residents told firefighters that they had recently thrown away fireworks after setting them off, which caused a small fire, officials said.

AURORA, IL — A small fire inside of a garage near an Aurora townhome may have been caused by fireworks that were thrown away after being used, fire officials said on Wednesday.

The fire, which was reported on Sunday, took place at a townhouse in the 1700 block of Fredericksburg Lane, where residents told firefighters they could smell smoke but did not see any flames, according to a news release.

Firefighters arrived to find light smoke coming from the garage area. Officials said the door to the garage was warm to the touch. The residents told firefighters that they had set off fireworks and had thrown them away inside a garbage can inside the garage.
