Fire officials say three other pets did not survive the blaze.

AURORA, IL — A dog was rescued from a fire that broke out in a home in the 700 block of Hankes Avenue Wednesday. The fire was reported just before 7 p.m.

When firefighters got to the scene, the homeowner told them all residents were out safely, but there were four pets inside. Fire crews were able to get two dogs and two cats out of the home. One dog survived and was taken to a local veterinary hospital.

The home was determined to be uninhabitable and sustained roughly $100,000 in damage, fire officials said. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
