Drug-Induced Homicide Charge Filed In 2021 Cocaine Death: Berlin
A 62-year-old Wheaton man died of a drug overdose in March 2021 after the Aurora man went to his house and sold him cocaine, officials said.
AURORA, IL — A $500,000 bond has been set for an Aurora man accused of supplying cocaine to a Wheaton man who died of an overdose, officials said.
Markwon Wilson, 21, was charged with one count of drug-induced homicide in the 2021 death of 62-year-old Raul Torres.
The Aurora man, of the 1700 block of Ravine Park Lane, was arrested July 26 by Winnebago County sheriff's deputies and Wheaton detectives, two weeks after a judge issued a $750,000 warrant for his arrest, according to the DuPage County State's Attorney's Office.

Wilson is also facing a charge of manufacture/delivery of 400-900 grams of cocaine in Winnebago County.
When police officers and paramedics were dispatched around 4:30 p.m. March 29, 2021, to the 2000 block of West Roosevelt Road, Torres was found unconscious and not breathing on the living room couch. He had a pipe in his hand and a white powdery substance, later identified as cocaine, on the floor in front of him, officials said.

The Wheaton man was pronounced dead at the scene. Through an investigation, police determined Wilson to be the person who supplied the illegal narcotics, according to prosecutors.
Police believe Wilson went to Torres's home and sold him the cocaine. Torres ingested the drug and died as a result of an overdose, officials said.
The Aurora man's next court appearance is set for Aug. 23 for arraignment in front of Judge Michael Reidy, who also set his bond.
"Illegal narcotics continue to take thousands of lives each year," DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said in a statement. "These souls are lost forever, while those who supplied the deadly doses make money from death, as alleged in this case. The charges filed ... should send a shiver down the spine of anyone who makes the mistake of selling drugs in DuPage County where we look at every illegal narcotics overdose case as the potential result of criminal action committed by the supplier."
