Man Fatally Shot By Aurora Police IDed
Santiago, Calderon, 36, was killed during a police-involved shooting in Aurora.
AURORA, IL — A suspect is dead and two officers are wounded after a police confrontation in downtown Aurora. In a press conference Friday, Aurora Police Chief Kristin Ziman identified the deceased man as Santiago Calderon, 36, of the 700 block of E. Galena.
Ziman said the squad car involved was not equipped with a dash cam, but that police were working to obtain footage from unidentified sources.
Police say the officer-involved shooting took place when gunfire was exchanged between Special Investigation Operators and Calderon near Galena and LaSalle at around 9:45 p.m.

According to police, Griffin and Huber saw Calderon and another man leaving a home they had been surveilling in the 200 block of S. Lake Street. When police pulled the vehicle over, they say Calderon fired shots at the officers before fleeing eastbound and crashing into a car near the intersection of Galena and Broadway.
Calderon then got out and fled on foot, exchanging gunfire with the two officers, police say.
Police fatally shot Calderon near the intersection of LaSalle Street between Galena and Downer Place, according to a news release.

Ziman said Griffin and Huber ran to give aid to Calderon and found a gun "at his side."
According to police, Calderon was released on bond on March 13 after recent unrelated gun charges.
Police say the other suspect is in custody.
The Kane County Major Crimes Task force is leading the ongoing investigation. The county coroner will conduct an autopsy on Calderon, police said.
