Fire Found In Dryer Unit Spread To Roof In Commercial Building: Update

Although the Monday afternoon fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, firefighters remained on the scene for an hour and a half.

AURORA, IL — The structure fire Monday afternoon at a commercial building in the 700 block of Farnsworth Avenue was found in a dryer unit that spread to the roof, officials said in an update.

A total of 28 firefighters responded to the scene at 3:35 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls saying smoke and flames were visible from the building, Patch reported. The fire found in the dryer unit, located on the second floor, extended through the ventilation system and spread to the roof, officials said.

While Engine Company crews advanced hose lines through the interior, Truck Company crews set up aerial ladders to access the roof. Although the fire was brought under control within 20 minutes, officials said firefighters remained on the scene for an hour and a half to check for extension and extinguish hot spots.

The facility was deemed operational after the fire erupted, according to Aurora Fire Department staff.

One employee was treated on the scene by paramedics but did not require hospital transport. No firefighters were injured in the incident.
