Fireplace Fire Causes $80K In Damage To Aurora Home
The homeowner lit the fire and then heard a crackling sound in the ceiling before the attic caught ablaze.

AURORA, IL -- A fire that was lit in the fireplace of an Aurora home ignited an attic and caused roughly $80,000 to the residence Friday night. The resident, who lives in the 800 block of Foran Lane, told officials that he had lit the fire about 20 minutes before he heard a crackling noise in his ceiling.
When firefighters got to the scene just before 10 p.m. they say smoke was showing from the eaves of the single-story home. More than 20 firefighters fought the blaze and put out the fire, which was centered around the fireplace flue in the home's attic.
No one was injured in the fire and the cause of the blaze is currently under investigation, fire officials say.
