Former Aurora Elementary School Reopens As Affordable Apartments
The former Todd Elementary School, which closed five years ago, is one of two defunct schools that will reopen as the Fox Valley Apartments.

AURORA, IL — A once-operating elementary school transformed into affordable apartments will officially open Wednesday.
The former Todd Elementary School, which closed five years ago, is one of two defunct schools — the other being Lincoln Elementary School, which closed in 2009 — that will reopen as the Fox Valley Apartments, a 47-unit housing initiative.
The Todd Elementary site, at 100 Oak Ave., features one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments, a laundry room, a community room, a computer lab and private, off-street parking. Grounds will also be home to a VNA Health care clinic.

"In each of our recent community needs assessments, the need for affordable housing ranks in the top three," Mayor Richard Irvin said in a statement. "Fox Valley Apartments represent a collective partnership formed to offer a solution to the community."
A first-phase grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony, set to include a tour, will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday.
The second-phase grand opening of Lincoln Elementary School is planned to take place in the spring, officials said.
