Gas Main Bursts, Nearby Homes Evacuated In Aurora: Police

Emergency crews from Nicor are en route to the site of the gas main break. Motorists should avoid the area.

AURORA, IL — Several homes are being evacuated after a gas main ruptured in Aurora, according to police. The gas main broke at approximately 12 p.m. in the 400 block of S. Ohio Ave., police say.

Nicor is currently on the scene working to repair the break.

The rupture took place while a city crew was working on sewers in the area, Aurora Police spokesman Dan Ferrelli told Patch.

Ferrelli said a total of 12 homes were evacuated, but no one was injured.

Residents are advised to avoid the area until further notice. Police do not currently have an estimate of when the repairs will be completed.
