Gun Found On Teen During Traffic Stop In Aurora: Cops

The teen reportedly dropped the gun while trying to flee the officers on foot.

AURORA, IL -- A 17-year-old Aurora boy faces multiple charges after police say they caught him with a loaded handgun during a traffic stop. The teen was reportedly in a car with a 16-year-old and an 18-year-old who was driving during the Jan. 23 incident, police say.

According to police, the driver was spotted without a seatbelt near Fourth Avenue and Smith Street. When police attempted to pull over the driver, police say the car sped up and went through a stop sign before parking in a driveway in the 300 block of South Ohio Street.

Police say the 17-year-old was apprehended after trying to flee on foot. Officers reportedly found a loaded Beretta 9 mm handgun. He faces three counts of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon. The driver was cited for not wearing a safety belt, improper lane usage, and disregarding a stop sign. Police say the 16-year-old passenger was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant.
