Harrowing Video Shows Dangers Of Winter Driving: Aurora Police

This video shows what happens when ice and snow obscure traffic lights on the road.

AURORA, IL --- Police in Aurora are sharing a cautionary tale for drivers after a semi nearly collided with a car during the recent blizzard. The ice and snow had left traffic signals obscured at a busy intersection in the city, leading to a couple of close calls as drivers allegedly failed to follow protocol for snow conditions.

According to a post on the Aurora Police Department Facebook page, the icy conditions caused a "couple of crashes" because drivers said they could not see which color stoplights were displaying. If a stoplight is obscured or broken, drivers should treat the intersection like a four-way stop, police say, citing an Illinois traffic law.

Inclement weather can cause drivers to panic, especially when traffic signals are not visible, so this valuable information may just end up saving a life.
