Kitchen Fire Damages 3-Story Apartment In Aurora

AURORA, IL — A fire that damaged a three-story Aurora apartment building and displaced several residents Saturday night likely started in the kitchen, fire officials say. The fire caused "extensive fire, smoke, and water damage" to the apartment, which is located in the first block of Stolp Avenue.
In a news release, Aurora Fire Department Battalion Chief Jim Rhodes said someone in the apartment building pulled an alarm around 8:24 p.m. When fire crews got to the scene, Rhodes said, there was no visible smoke outside of the building, but heavy smoke was evident inside of the apartment building on the third floor.
Rhodes said the kitchen's sprinkler system put out the fire, but left the unit with smoke and water damage. As a result, several residents were unable to return to their homes and helped with temporary housing.
