Man Barricades Himself In Aurora Home After Domestic Incident: Sheriff
Neighbors reported the man told a woman with whom he was fighting Tuesday on Parkside Avenue to "shut up or I'll shoot you," officials said.
AURORA, IL — Charges are pending against a 45-year-old man after a domestic battery incident Tuesday morning that resulted in him barricading himself in a residence on Parkside Avenue, according to the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies were dispatched at 6:22 a.m. to the 300 block of Parkside Avenue in Aurora Township for a report of a domestic situation involving a man and woman fighting in the street. Neighbors who reported the incident said the man told the woman to "shut up or I'll shoot you" but couldn't see any weapons, officials said.
The residence on Parkside Avenue is a relative's address, officials said.

When they arrived at the residence, deputies saw items strewn across the lawn and witnessed a man run from within the house as they approached. Officials said deputies engaged with the man before he re-entered the house and began barricading the back door.
Members of the Aurora Police Department and Kane County's Sheriff's Office created a perimeter around the house as a precautionary measure and, once establishing communication with the man inside, confirmed the domestic incident began in the street. Police did not provide additional details about the situation.

Officials said deputies overheard the man make suicidal statements but were able to use de-escalation tactics to prompt the man to exit the house without further incident.
The man, identified as 45-year-old William D. Spates, was medically examined as a precaution and will receive treatment at an undisclosed location as standard procedure, officials said.
Once the man is cleared by medical staff, officials said he will be taken into custody by the Kane County Sheriff's Office, pending charges.
The woman involved in the incident was located and taken to a secured location to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The sheriff's office is withholding her name, address and injuries since she is cooperating with the investigation, officials said.
The incident is under investigation as detectives continue to interview witnesses and gather evidence associated with the pending charges, which officials did not list. Officials said they will provide an update of authorized charges "as soon as possible."
