Man Charged In Hit-And-Run Death Of 8-Year-Old Aurora Boy

Christiopher Carrillo, 28, allegedly drove off and abandoned his car after fatally hitting 8-year-old Izaiah Lopez.

AURORA, IL — An Aurora man was arrested over the weekend and charged with multiple felony counts in connection with a hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of an 8-year-old boy and left his grandfather injured. Christopher Carrillo, 28, was charged with leaving the scene of and failing to report an accident that resulted in injury or death, driving without a license and driving without insurance in the March 25 crash.

According to police, Carrillo was driving a 2007 gray Ford Focus southbound on Lake Street near Plum Street when he hit 8-year-old Izaiah Lopez and his grandfather as they were walking across Lake Street with the boy's sister. Carrillo is accused of fleeing the scene of the crash and abandoning his car, which was later found in a nearby neighborhood with front end damage.

Police say they got into contact with Carrillo at his home in Aurora over the weekend, arrested him without incident and transported him to Kane County Jail.

In a press release, Sergeant William Rowley added that it was unknown whether Carrillo had been "under the influence of any intoxicating compounds" at the time of the crash, but that no charging documents had indicated he had been driving impaired.
