Man Helped Illegally Sell Guns, Headed To Federal Prison: Attorney

The North Aurora man helped a relative sell a shotgun and a revolver to a buyer who was cooperating with law enforcement, officials said.

NORTH AURORA, IL — A North Aurora man will spend four years in federal prison after he was convicted of helping illegally sell two firearms, according to prosecutors.

In the fall of 2019, Jeffrey Greer, 57, helped a relative sell a shotgun and a revolver to a buyer, who, unbeknownst to them, was working with law enforcement. The North Aurora man helped negotiate the terms of the deal during a meeting in his relative's North Aurora home and transported the gun to the buyer's truck, according to officials at the U.S. Attorney's Office in the Northern District of Illinois.

He pled guilty earlier this year to a federal charge of dealing firearms without a license. U.S. District Judge Sara L. Ellis sentenced Greer to four years in prison during a hearing July 13.
