Montgomery Man Found Guilty In 2015 Aurora Shooting, Home Invasion

Armed with a loaded handgun, Enrique Jaquez​ broke into the residence of his former girlfriend's boyfriend and shot him in the back in 2015.

AURORA, IL — A Kane County jury found a Montgomery man guilty of five felony charges pertaining to a 2015 shooting in Aurora.

The jury deliberated for an hour and a half before reaching its verdict, convicting 43-year-old Enrique B. Jaquez of the following:

  • Attempt first-degree murder
  • Home invasion
  • Aggravated battery
  • Aggravated discharge of a firearm
  • Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon

The shooting happened around 10 a.m. March 27, 2015, in Brighton Circle in Aurora. Armed with a loaded handgun, Jaquez broke into the residence of his former girlfriend's boyfriend and shot him in the back as he tried to escape, according to evidence presented in the trial by assistant state's attorneys Jake Matekaitis and Margaret O'Brien.

The victim was hospitalized in intensive care for several days following surgery, officials said.

Jaquez was apprehended three years later, on Sept. 22, 2018, when he attempted to enter the United States from Mexico.

The Montgomery man faces a minimum sentence of 31 years in prison at the Illinois Department of Corrections. His next court appearance for motions and sentencing is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Dec. 19.

Jaquez remains in custody at the Kane County jail, where he has been held in lieu of $750,000 bail since his arrest. Judge John Barsanti revoked his bond upon conviction.

"Mr. Jaquez is a danger to the community," Matekaitis said in a statement. "We are pleased justice was served and Mr. Jaquez was held accountable for his violent behavior."
