📰 News we're reading
• Mobile selected to join Love Your Block program (fox10tv.com) — Aurora is one of several cities joining the Love Your Block program, a national effort that funds small, resident-led projects to clean up and improve neighborhoods. While Mobile is the lead focus of this release, Aurora's inclusion means local groups could soon tap grants and expert support to tackle vacant lots, public spaces, and community beautification projects.

• Jerry Betcke, 89 – WLKM Radio 95.9 FM (wlkm.com) — Aurora is part of the life story of Jerry Ronald Betcke, who once owned and operated the Council Court Hotel here and later had a stepson living in the city. The 89-year-old Army veteran and former delivery driver from Sturgis is remembered for his service, hard work, and devotion to family, with a remembrance service to be announced later.

• Trump administration's proposal could make it easier to suspend or expel Head Start students (seattlepi.com) — A Head Start teacher who lives and works in Aurora describes how strong behavioral supports helped her young son stay in preschool, protections that could weaken under a Trump administration proposal. The rule change would let states set looser suspension and expulsion policies for Head Start students, worrying advocates about vulnerable children, especially outside stricter states like Illinois. Public comments are open through October 6.
